Parkes Pony Club's winning entry from Norma Garment is as follows...
Parkes Horse and Pony Club is a member of Zone 11, conducting our rallies at the Joe Judd Memorial Horse and Pony Club Grounds on the corner of Orange and Tanks Roads, with our monthly business meeting held at McDonalds Restaurant which is a family friendly environment.
The Club has twenty seven riding members and four non riding members and five regular volunteers assisting the Club.
The members receive instruction in flat riding, dressage, sporting, jumping and cross country, with regular lessons on the care of the horse in feeding, grooming and lots of TLC. We are fortunate to have a volunteer who specializes in grooming horses for show and readily passes on her skills.
A normal rally day begins with a equipment and presentation check and a numbering off, of each age group before they start the day with instruction on flat riding. Each group is instructed each rally day in care of the horse, and then broken into groups for dressage, jumping or sporting. A volunteer provides a good nutritious lunch, which is also a very social time for the children and parents. The afternoon sessions always conclude with a ride through the cross county course at the level of each group.
Our major fundraiser for the past four years has been a selling drinks during the Parkes Elvis Festival Street Parade, our major event of the year is our Gymkhana, this year we are conducting A Chris Johnson School for members and Zone 11 members. The members support all the other Gymkhanas held in our Zone by each Club.
Our major achievement for 2012 has been the conducting of our 60th Anniversary Gymkhana with all clubs in the Zone attending and a special ribbon to commemorate the day being presented to all riders and winners.
The best thing about being a member of the Parkes Horse and Pony Club, as a Grandmother, is seeing the members develop their riding skills and developing a relationship between themselves and their ponies and having the time to assist the Club as their Treasurer.
